The MSU Local Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) will celebrate National Chemistry Week on Saturday, Oct. 23rd, from 10am to 3:30 pm with a public event at the Impression 5 Science Center (200 Museum Drive, Lansing, MI). Thanks to a generous donation from Emergent BioSolutions admission to the science center is free during Chemistry Day!
The theme for this year’s National Chemistry Week is “Behind the Scenes with Chemistry” – Celebrating the chemistry in movies, movie set design, makeup artistry, and common special effects. The activities that are planned will demonstrate concepts in chemistry which can explain the mystery behind the “magic” that is shown in films and on television. The annual event is designed to diminish the term “magic” associated with the “unexplainable” and direct attention to the chemistry which makes special effects work.
This year marks the 24th year that the MSU Local Section celebrates Chemistry Day with a public event. Chemistry Day at Impression 5 Science Center is sponsored by the MSU Local Section of the ACS, the MSU Department of Chemistry and Emergent BioSolutions. Students from area schools, including Michigan State University, Olivet College, Perry High School, and Eaton Rapids High School will present hands-on activities and chemical demonstrations guaranteed to delight and amaze you! Join us for the fun and learn about the fantastic world of chemistry!
